CHAPTER SIXTEEN

I was shocked. I collided with the water at an alarming rate of speed. My back felt like it hit an unforgiving concrete wall. It took a minute for the pain to register. The skin on my back burned like it was on fire. Panic set in at my reality. I sank deeper and deeper into the darkness of the ocean. My panic was growing along with my pain. The deeper I drifted down the deeper my despair grew. I’m going to die. I know it.

Looking around, there was nothing but darkness. If I didn’t start kicking my way up soon I was going to drown. Cold was setting in. I couldn’t tell if it was from the water or from shock. Holding my breath was becoming impossible so I pushed through the pain and started trying to swim my way to the top. Spots started clouding my vision. My eyes closed and I could feel my body shutting down as I drifted toward the abyss below me. There were no flashes of my life that many people talk about. No replay of vivid happy moments. All I saw were regrets. Regrets of the life I never got to have. I was only eighteen. My life had just begun. Regrets of never telling those closest to me how much they really meant to me or how much I loved them. Regrets of not getting to know Kade. The hot, sexy, and confusing boy who had made my heart flutter. It was funny how in this moment I realized why it was that he frustrated me so much. With that one last thought I willed one last burst of hope and energy to try and propel myself to the top. My lungs were burning furiously and my head was about to explode.

Someone or something grabbed my waist as I drifted into the dark abyss . I tried to see who had me, but I couldn’t move. Instead of pulling me toward the light of day, they were pulling me further down. I tried hysterically to claw my captor but it was futile. My hands kept slipping on my captor’s slick skin. I managed to get a glimpse over my shoulder at my captor. I couldn’t make out much in the dark. Very little light filtered in from the sun. I just made out he had long dark hair and pitch black round eyes. He was smiling at me with a mouth of razor sharp pointed teeth.

Holy Hellfire!

What is this thing! I must already be dead, or a lack of oxygen is causing hallucinations! I try to kick him in the leg hoping to break free.

My nose started burning and fire lite my lungs ablaze. My whole body burned. My eyes closed and I was floating. Drifting down, down, down. I was at peace. No more pain. No more rejection. No more being scared. Peace. All at once, I was being grabbed and shaken. It’s too late though. I was already gone.
